Ryazan Kremlin

Russia, Ryazan

Ryazan Kremlin is the oldest city monument. Its central point is the Uspenskiy cathedral built between 1693 and 1699 by the Russian craftsman Bukhvostov. The cathedral used to be summer residence of Ryazan eparchy. This monumental building, which is 72 meters tall and occupies the area of 1600 square meters, dominated for its diminutions almost all constructions of those times. Uspenskiy cathedral is also a fine example of Russian "Naryshkin" baroque style, called after the name of a noble Russian family. It is a unique piece of ancient Russian art  as it harmonically integrates architecture, sculpture and icon painting.
