Tula Kremlin

Russia, Tula

The Tula Kremlin has a long history of almost five centuries long. Built in early 16th, it was mostly used to defend the city from nomad raids. According to this objective, the Kremlin represents a fine example of defensive construction with nine towers and four gates. In fact, the Kremlin is a well-fortified town inside the city center, as originally almost all citizens and military men lived there. The main street of Tula, Great Kremlin Street, lies within the Kremlin walls. There are two cathedrals in the Tula Kremlin: the Assumption Cathedral built in 1766 in baroque style, and the Epiphany Cathedral built between 1855 and 1862 in commemoration of Tula warriors who died in Patriotic war of 1812. Nowadays, the Epiphany cathedral houses the State arms museum.
