Kirillov-Belozerskiy monastery

Kirillov-Belozerskiy monastery was founded in 1397 by monk Kirill, a prior of Moscow Simonov monastery. The main monastery construction, Uspenskiy cathedral, was completed in 1497 by twenty Rostov masons headed by Prohor of Rostov. The cathedral was among the first stone buildings in Russian north. The monastery is famous for accommodating former patriarchy Nikon in his exile to the north.
