Kronborg Castle

Denmark, Elsinore

Kronborg Castle stands near the town of Elsinore at the narrowest point of the Oresund, the sound between Denmark and Sweden. Elegant sharp towers covered with copper dominate over solid castle walls. The castles rich history is also a controversial one the castle used to be a royal residence, a military garrison and finally a naval museum. The castle has for centuries been one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe and was added to UNESCOs World Heritage Sites list. However, the castle is mainly known as Elsinore, the setting for William Shakespeares famous tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.
