Monument to Catherine the Great

Russia, St. Petersburg

This monument was designed by the Russian artist M.O. Mikeshin and created by sculptors M.A. Chizhov who made the statue of Catherine II, and A.M. Opekushin who executed the other nine statues. The monument is 4.35 meters high. The Empress is dressed in her official gown and holds a scepter in her right hand and an olive wreath in her left hand. The statue of Catherine is surrounded by delicately carved figures of the most prominent individuals of her reign: politicians and poets, military men and courtiers, including Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky, Potiomkin, Suvorov who are associated with the glorious victories of Russia.
